Nulogx building influence through content marketing

April 5th, 2012 by nulogx No comments »

Nulogx was recently featured in Motortruck Magazine’s March/April 2012 Edition. Here is an excerpt from the article written by Carl Friesen, titled: “Play Like the Big Boys – Building influence through content marketing“:

Let’s say you’re with a company that lacks broad market awareness despite having a great set of offerings, a track record of success and satisfied customers. Your existing customers are ready to act as references, but it’s an uphill battle to convince prospects not familiar with you to give you a fair shot. And as for leads, let’s just say that waiting for your contacts to change jobs is your fastest way to get in front of new companies. Sound familiar?

This is not far from the normal state of affairs for new service providers within established industries. Being innovative is not enough to garner the credibility to compete with more established players, and certainly will not overcome the skepticism most will have toward an unfamiliar name. So how can you rise above the noise of your cold-calling compatriots and claim the higher ground?

This is the challenge the management team at Nulogx, a Mississauga, Ont.-based provider of transportation management solutions, had to grapple with several years ago. As a new name in the market, Nulogx was determined to leverage its technology and information-based processes to deliver value to a broader market. Ultimately, Nulogx needed to highlight the value of good information in transportation decisions and at the same time communicate to the market its capabilities in this regard.

Part of the answer, as described by Scott Irvine, vicepresident of business development at the company, came from a commitment to contribute to the transportation community as whole, including shippers, carriers, and even potential competitors. That’s when Nulogx launched the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI), the first resource of its kind in Canada. In addition to the CGFI, Nulogx also launched a “thought leadership” program around this effort to help establish the company as a trusted source of information and best practices.

Embrace Technology to Enhance Transportation Network

April 2nd, 2012 by Zack Langlois No comments »

Transportation Technology In recent years, the transportation and logistics industry has made significant head way in pulling itself out of the dark ages through the use of technology. This evolution has taken the industry from fax machines and hours spent on the phone, to EDI and online load tracing. Shippers and service providers alike are joining the 21st century and utilizing technology to boost efficiency, create visibility, increase complexity, and reduce costs within their networks. However, it is surprising how many companies still have not fully embraced an IT-rich environment to support an ever changing logistics landscape. Now before we continue let’s take a moment to properly define an “IT-rich environment”.  Ladies and Gentlemen allow me to challenge you, just because you now have your routing guide in Excel, and a small amount of your carrier invoices being received via EDI, (congratulations but…) that does not qualify you as IT-rich! We are talking about a logistics network being managed by a full suite of technology solutions whether it be routing guides, load optimization, audit processes, or even carrier procurement and performance. It is high time to get a firm grasp on understanding the solutions available, and how they can benefit your organization.

The task of implementing and managing this scale of technology can be daunting to say the least (Let’s face it, many of us still have trouble working our BlackBerry’s ). This is why service providers such as Nulogx Inc. have undertaken the task on your behalf. The need to purchase an expensive software, devote countless hours of manpower to implementation, and hire tech-savvy power users to operate it is obsolete. Powerful software applications such as Transportation Management Systems (TMS) are now being hosted on a Software as a Service (SAAS) basis. Back end solutions, such as the Nulogx Audit & Analytics Service, are now offered as user-friendly portals with access to interactive dashboards and customized reporting tools. This level of IT sophistication is now affordable and readily available. Are you ready to embrace it?

At Nulogx, we understand the need for organizations to partner with a dedicated service provider in order to gain access to, and create an IT-rich environment. We have devoted our team of industry experts, coupled with world-class technology to provide just that. We are passionate about enabling companies to increase visibility, support increasing complexity, promote efficiency, and ultimately reduce costs through the use of technology-based solutions.

Is your organization ready to become a leader by taking advantage of this?

March 28th, 2012 by nulogx 2 comments »

Canadian ShippersResults published today by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers increased .8% in January when compared with December results. After the 11th consecutive monthly increase, the CGFI is now 9.5% above the February 2011 result.

The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers increased slightly in January, and is now .3% over the December result.  Since February 2011, base rates reported by the CGFI have risen 3.8%.

“Rising Accessorial Charges continue to be the primary driver of increasing freight costs for Canadian shippers” said Doug Payne, President  & COO, Nulogx. “While these typically decline in the spring, we will continue to monitor this to determine if they are seasonal increases, or part of a general pricing trend by carriers” continued Payne.

The CGFI is sponsored by Nulogx, a leading Transportation Management Solutions provider, and is used by shippers and carriers to benchmark performance, develop business plans, and secure competitive agreements. Freight Costs Continues to Rise, Increasing Fuel Surcharges Impacting Freight Rates.

February 29th, 2012 by nulogx No comments »

Results published today by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers increased 1.1% in December when compared with November results. After the 10th consecutive monthly increase, the CGFI is now 8.1% above the December 2010 result.

The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers remained essentially the same in December versus November.  Since December 2010 base rates reported by the CGFI have risen only .8%.

Increasing Accessorial Charges (including fuel surcharges) are the primary driver of increasing freight costs for Canadian shippers.   In December the average Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers increased to 27.8% of Base Rates, up from 26.7% in November, and 24.3% in October.

“During the winter months it is not uncommon to see increases in Non-Fuel Accessory Charges as a result of seasonal shipping and winter conditions” said Doug Payne, President  & COO, Nulogx. “While we expect these to decline in the spring, we are continuing to monitor the impact rising fuel prices has on shipping costs” continued Payne.

Freight Cost Continues to Rise, CGFI Rises for 9th Consecutive Month in November

January 25th, 2012 by nulogx No comments »

Results published today by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers  increased 1.6% in November when compared with October results. This represents the 9th consecutive monthly increase since March of 2011. During this time the CGFI has risen 7.1% in aggregate.

The Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers increased by a modest .4% in November versus October. Since March of 2011 Base Rates have risen 4.3% in aggregate.

An increase in Fuel Surcharges assessed by carriers is the primary reason why Total Costs are increasing a a faster rate than Base Rates.   In November the Fuel Surcharges assessed by carriers equated to 20.86% of Base Rates, up from 18.79% in March.

“We are starting to see increases in some sectors that have been hit the hardest during the economic downturn” said Doug Payne, President & COO, Nulogx. “This may be a sign that we are seeing both an increase in demand as well as continued operational and pricing discipline from carriers” continued Payne.

Freight Cost Increases Stall In September, CGFI Remains Constant While Base Rates Decrease Slightly

November 30th, 2011 by nulogx No comments »

Results published today by the Canadian General Freight Index (CGFI) indicate that the cost of ground transportation for Canadian Shippers in September remained the same when compared with August results.

However the Base Rate Index, which excludes the impact of Accessorial Charges assessed by carriers decreased by .1% for the same period.  This was the first decrease in Base Rates since March 2011.

Offsetting the decrease in Base Rates were slight increases in both Average Fuel Surcharges assessed by carriers and Other Accessorial Charges.  During this period the Fuel Surcharges assessed by carriers equated to 20.16% of Base Rates, up from 20.1% in August.  The combined effect of lower Base Rates and higher Accessorial Charges resulted in no change in average transportation costs for Canadian shippers.

“The slight decrease in Base Rates was predominantly driven by reduced costs in the Transborder Truckload sector,” said Doug Payne, President  & COO, Nulogx. “Over the summer these movements were subject to significant cost increases and it is possible that these are easing somewhat” continued Payne.
